Upper School Testing Program
PSAT (Pre-SAT)
The PSAT is the pre-SAT test given to students in the 10th and 11th grades to help prepare them for the SAT college entrance exam. This test covers the three content areas of critical reading, math, and writing. The test scores are used to help the student better determine their college readiness. The PSAT is administered in October.
PLAN (Pre-ACT) & EXPLORE
The PLAN and EXPLORE are the pre-ACT tests given to students to help prepare them for the ACT college entrance test. These tests cover the four content areas of English, reading, math and science and offer an interest inventory linking student preferences to the world of work. Scores are used to help determine college readiness. Students in the 10th and 11th grades will take the PLAN test in late October. Ninth graders will take the EXPLORE.
Stanford Achievement Tests
The Stanford Achievement Tests are nationally normed grade level tests that measure a student's academic achievement. Students in grades 9-11 take the reading and math portions of this test in the spring of each school year. See US Schedule for the spring 2011 Stanford testing schedule.
OLSAT (Otis-Lennon School Ability Test)
The OLSAT is a school ability test given to students in 9th and 11th grades. It measures the student's aptitude for academics.
Advanced Placement Exams
Advanced Placement (AP) classes are rigorous and help students prepare for the demands of college. The Advanced Placement Exams are year-end exams produced by the College Board. Students who pass AP Exams may be eligible to receive college credit for the class. NCCS students are encouraged to avail themselves of the Advanced Placement class offerings. The tests are administered in May. Students are responsible for the cost of the exam(s).
Pathways Testing
All grade 8 students and transfer freshmen and sophomores will be administered the following assessments: DISC Personality Profile, Spiritual Gifts Inventory, O'Net Interest Profiler, Learning Styles Inventory, and EXPLORE.
