QUEST Club

NCCS after school care is a learning program designed as an extended curriculum to enrich and encourage our children to QUEST for knowledge and develop an appreciation for fine arts, athletics, technology, and the sciences through hands-on experiences. QUEST Club (QC) is $11.00 per day/child. An additional fee will be charged for Special QC classes you choose to participate in. Your child may attend QC one day or as many days as desired.

All students in grade K4 through fifth grade must have a Student Data Sheet for QC on file whether the parents anticipate using QC or not. As parents may get stuck in traffic, or experience an unforeseen event that keeps them from picking up their child on time it is critical that every student have a completed Student Data Sheet on file Please complete one promptly in the first two weeks of the new school year.

The QUEST teacher must administer all medicines. Students may NOT administer their own medicine.

12. Parents will be notified immediately of any illness, serious injury, adverse reaction to medications, or communicable diseases to which your child may have been exposed. In the event of an emergency, NCCS will utilize 911. Wellstar Kennestone Hospital will be used for emergencies requiring medical attention. In the event that your child becomes ill and must leave the school, arrangements should be made to pick up your child within the hour. The child will be moved to a quiet area and given necessary attention until the parent arrives. Children are not permitted to stay at the school while experiencing fever, diarrhea, vomiting, or exhibiting signs of contagious disease even in the absence of a fever.

13. For the protection of children while in our care, the QUEST Club follows all procedures of the school regarding severe weather, fire, physical plant problems, or structural damage. Should any of these occur, you would be contacted as soon as possible. The school policies and procedures for these circumstances are posted on the QUEST bulletin board located in the cafeteria.

14. QUEST Club is an extension of the regular classroom. Positive reinforcement of correct behavior is the most effective disciplinary tool of the QUEST teacher. Rewards are given for individual and group behavior. The specifics of each classroom's behavior management program will be set by the teacher and geared to the age of the children in that classroom.

We are also aware that on occasion a child in the program may exhibit inappropriate behavior. In these cases, an explanation of the inappropriate behavior will be given to the child along with the correct behavior that is expected. Upon the second occurrence, the child will be placed in "time-out". Generally, there is no need for further disciplinary action. If the problem continues, the QUEST teacher will enlist the assistance of the parents and may consult with the regular classroom teacher for insight into effective disciplinary steps for the child.

Behavior difficulties that are exhibited on a regular basis, and remain uncorrected after all attempts to correct the behavior, will be addressed through the principal's office. Children who exhibit severe behavior problems will be sent directly to the principal's office. You will be notified if this happens.

15. If a student is found unsupervised in an inappropriate area (i.e. playground, hallways, etc.), that student will need to miss recess during school for one week in addition to serving community service in the lunchroom and/or hallways for that same week.

16. If you have any questions, please contact Nancy Morales Dondiego, QUEST Club Director, at (770) 975-0252 ext. 195 (after 5:30 PM ext. 182).

All students must have a 2009-10 QUEST Club Data Sheet on file. See Forms under Academics for a downloadable pdf.
