Admissions Process
The admissions process at NCCS begins by visiting our school either through an Open House or by individual appointment. We encourage you to ask questions and to carefully review our materials and our website. Once a family has decided that NCCS is where they would like to place their child, they may begin the application process. The application process for new students typically begins in January, and applications will be processed as they are submitted. The amount of time between submitting an application and acceptance varies, but is generally about 2-3 weeks.
ADMISSION POLICIES
Basic Criteria
To be considered as a candidate for NCCS, prospective students should:
- score in the 50th percentile or above on the entrance test (a national, standardized test) in the math and reading areas,
- have average to above average school ability, as indicated on the Otis-Lennon School Ability Test (given during entrance testing, grades 4-12),
- have appropriate grade level reading and writing skills,
- have strong recommendations from the required sources,
- desire a Christian education and preferably be involved in a local church, and
- have no recent history of serious behavioral problems.
General Policies
- Criteria for acceptance is based on the complete application including, but not limited to, test results, report card grades and comments, conduct, standardized test scores, references, desire for a Christian education, and interview.
- NCCS admits students of any race, color or national origin to all the rights, privileges, programs, and activities generally accorded or made available to students in the school, including its administrative policies, financial aid, fine arts, athletics, and other school administered programs.
- NCCS reserves the right to refuse admission to an applicant or to discontinue the enrollment of a student if the conduct within the home or the conduct of the student is in opposition to the biblical lifestyle taught by the school. This includes sexual immorality, homosexual orientation or inability to support the moral principles of the school.
- To enter K3, K4, K5 or first grade a student should be developmentally ready for our program (including potty trained).
- Parents must agree with the Statement of Faith and support the inclusion of its perspective in all areas of life.
Student Application
Parents submit the completed application form (one per student) with the $100.00 non-refundable, non-transferable application fee, the two previous years' report cards plus the most current report card, the previous years' standardized test results (Iowa Test of Basic Skills, Stanford Achievement Test, etc.), any other educational testing results for giftedness or learning differences on the student.
Reference Forms
Just before submitting the application, parents distribute the appropriate recommendation forms. If a family is not involved in a local church, a community reference such as a Scout leader, coach or family friend should complete questions 1-8 of the Pastoral/Community reference form. Parents should include a stamped mailing envelope addressed to the Admissions Office of North Cobb Christian School with each recommendation form. All recommendation forms are to be filled out confidentially and faxed or mailed by the reference directly to NCCS. They are NOT to be included with the application.
Testing
Testing results are only one important factor in determining acceptance of a student. The primary purpose of testing is to determine if NCCS can meet the academic needs of the student.
Applicants for K4 and K5 will visit the school to participate in a developmental readiness assessment. As part of the assessment process, students will play games and interact with others. Qualified staff will observe motor, cognitive, social, and language development. The purpose of this assessment is to determine a child's readiness for our program. During the student assessment the parent (or guardian) will complete a simple questionnaire.
Applicants for grades 1-3 will be tested with the Stanford Achievement Test in math and reading in addition to a short writing assignment and oral reading. Observation of the student is a part of this process.
Applicants for grades 4-12 will be tested in math and reading by the Stanford Achievement Test. They will also take the Otis-Lennon School Ability Test and have a creative writing assignment. Student observation is also included.
Interview
After testing is completed, viable candidates and their parents will be contacted for an interview. The purpose of the interview is to get to know the family and student and to answer any remaining questions the family may have.
Acceptance
The Admissions Committee will meet to review applications after testing and interviews are completed. Parents will be notified of acceptance by mail shortly after the Parent/Student interview.
Completion of paperwork and payment of fee
Those students given an invitation to register at NCCS will fill out the final forms and take care of registration and other fees within 10 days. Students will be guaranteed a place at NCCS only after they have completed the application process, have been notified of acceptance and returned the necessary paperwork along with the registration fee. The decisions of the Admissions Committee are final, and indiviual applications will not be discussed by any Admissions Committee member. Any questions should be directed to the Director of Admissions.
